Abstract

Founded in 1843 by converted Jews, the Ratisbonne brothers, the congregation of Notre-Dame de Sion was devoted to prayer for the conversion of Jews and to helping the most disdvantaged among them. Afterwards, it turned to education fo which task it was very successful. From 1940 to 1944, when the Jews in France met with persecution, some nuns endeavoured bravely to save them. At the same time, numerous christenings are celebrated in their chapel in Paris. The question is : is this proselytism ? After the war and the Finaly case, the congregation chooses an important turning-point ; its is not merely satisfied with following the Church, it takes part and even stimulates the change of the Catholic change which ends in a coniliatory document in 1965, "Nostra Aetate", which is still valid. Henceforward, the nuns of Sion endeavour to get a better knowledge and encounter with Judaism to-day Jews.
